Previewing our trip to Preston

Our official match preview for Preston away

PNE piccy

Luton Town are back on the road this weekend as we travel to Deepdale to face Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship.

Rob Edwards’ side are still on the hunt for the first three points of the season after a hard-fought draw away at Portsmouth last Saturday.

The opposition

Preston North End have lost both of their first two games of the season as Sheffield United and Swansea City took all three points without reply from the Lilywhites.

With Paul Heckingbottom now at the helm as their new manager, the hosts will hope their luck will change after failing to score in their last seven league matches.

Words from the boss

Edwards was full of praise for Jordan Clark on his return from injury against Portsmouth and believes he can play an impact this weekend.

“Clicker was really good,” said Edwards. “He could have had several assists, playing a big part in the chances for Carlton and Eli.

“He was really influential and the performance with eleven players was good. We created two or three big chances and should’ve capitalised on at least one of them if I was being ultra-critical.

“But as I said after the game, we showed a second side of ourselves in the second half and that was very pleasing.”

Team news

Belgian international Thomas Kaminski is suspended following his red card on the south coast against Portsmouth.

Defenders Reece Burke and Mads Andersen will both be expected to travel with the squad.

Jacob Brown, Daiki Hashioka and Marvelous Nakamba, Tom Krauß and Tim Krul are all unavailable for the trip to the Lilywhites.

Last time we met

The Town were held to a 1-1 draw away at 10-man Preston the last time the two teams met in February 2023.

Ben Whiteman was sent off and a late Troy Parrott penalty rescued a point for the home side after Carlton Morris scored his 12th goal of the season off an Amari’i Bell cross in the second half.

Officials

The referee for our fixture against Preston North End will be Dean Whitestone.

Three yellow cards were handed out by Whitestone last weekend as he refereed the game between Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.

He last refereed us back in March 2023 when we beat Swansea City at Kenilworth Road on our way to promotion to the Premier League.

Referee: Dean Whitestone

Assistant Referees: Daniel Leach & James Wilson
