Our official preview for Sheffield United away

sheff u view

Luton Town head north to Bramall Lane on Saturday to face Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship.

Rob Edwards’ Hatters will look to finish strongly before the international break after a difficult week of results.

In his second period as manager of the Blades, Chris Wilder’s team are currently unbeaten in the Championship having won five of the first eight games.

The opposition

Last season, the Blades were relegated with us from the Premier League, finishing bottom with 16 points to show for.

Fast forward to this season and United have had a flying start, taking all three points against Preston, Watford, Hull City and Derby County.

On Wednesday, they hosted Swansea City and got the 1-0 victory thanks to an own goal from Swans defender Josh Tymon.

Gustavo Hamer (pictured), who scored for Coventry City in our Championship play-off final triumph in 2023, already has four goals to his name for the Blades this season.

Words from Rob

“We know a lot about them. They have a brilliant, experienced manager where they’ve had a lot of success. They have a consistent way of playing and have a settled team at the moment, which has helped for them.

“It’s a big challenge for us. Bramall Lane is a brilliant place to play with a great atmosphere so I’m really looking forward to getting there and going.

“After a tough night on Tuesday, we’ve reflected, processed and reviewed it. It’s been a really good couple of days so I’m really looking forward to going up against them.”

Liam Walsh is suspended for this fixture, while Tahith Chong and Carlton Morris are more likely to make a return after the international break.

Last time at Bramall Lane

We came back from behind to take all three points from Sheffield United on Boxing Day last season.

Alfie Doughty gave us the lead in the first half before Oli McBurnie and Anel Ahmedhodžić fired the hosts in-front after the break.

Two late own goals from Blades Jack Robinson and Anis Slimane, contributed massively by our substitute Carlton Morris, succumbed Wilder’s side to defeat.

Officials

The referee for our fixture against Sheffield United will be John Brooks.

23 yellow cards and no red cards have been handed out by Brooks across his four games this season, including four yellow cards in the Europa League tie between Ajax and Besiktas last week.

We last had a game officiated by Brooks for our game away at Manchester City in April, where he handed out one yellow card.

Referee: John Brooks

Assistant Referees: Simon Bennett & Daniel Robathan

Fourth Official: Robert Madley
