Zack Nelson reacts to his goal at QPR

Zack Nelson reflected on his first senior goal as the Hatters came up short at Loftus Road against QPR in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The 19-year-old impressed for the Town and his 16th-minute half-volley from outside the box caught the attention after drawing us level in west London following the hosts' early opener through Hevertton Santos.

“It was one of those, a clean strike that as soon as I hit it I knew it was in,” Zack said after completing 90 minutes against the Rs.

“A corner came in from Alfie, Carlton's got a bit of a flick on, then it fell nicely and I thought, 'Why not hit it?' I’m happy it went in.”

Nelson praised the team’s performance and feels it is only a matter of time before results will start going our way.

“It was a good game overall and a solid performance from the team," said the attacking midfielder. "We had loads of chances and dominated and I think we just need to stick with it and the results will come.

“It’s something that you’re going to have to get used to being a footballer, it was good to be in and around it and take it on with me in the future.”

Asked about his relationship with team-mate Reuell Walters and his contribution to the side's 2024/25 Championship campaign, he said: “I’ve known Reu from when I was younger.

"I think we have a good connection and I guess it shows out on the pitch as we trust each other and I hope that continues.”

The goalscorer added: “I think now it is about kicking on, trying to help the team with goals and assists and hopefully many more appearances this season to see what I can do.”

The youngster also praised the Hatters supporters for their role in his development: “It was really good and even when I’m tired and blowing, it’s like the fans are giving me a boost, that little bit more energy and we work hard for them.”
