The Hatters were deserving of a result at Ewood Park but suffered late heartbreak five minutes from the end as Adam Armstrong scored from close range to condemn Town to a second successive away defeat in the league.
It didn’t come without controversy either, as Lockyer revealed: “The ref has apologised to us, said he made a mistake but what can you do, we don’t seem to get the rub of the green with the officials at the minute. Chelsea, Brentford as well, so it is one of those things, what can we do.”
Though aggrieved, the 26-year-old admitted: “You don’t want to be one of those teams where you play really well but gets unlucky. I’d rather play abysmally and win one-nil every week. Obviously performance-wise, you want to be performing well because you know results are only a matter of time.
“If you keep performing well, you cannot be unlucky forever but like I said, this is a results business so results are the main thing at the end of the day. The performances are there when the results aren’t, but it is when the performances aren’t and the results aren’t, that is when you have to worry.”
On a personal note, it was 12th league game in succession that the 26-year-old had started, a tally Lockyer has been delighted to reach.
“I just love football. I love playing football so buzzing I’m back in the team and I’m going to do all I can to try and stay in the team so that is doing well and limiting my mistakes to as few as I can.
“I’m giving my all for the team, which I always do so long may it continue. But I know football is never as easy as that, you never know what is around the corner but I’m going to try my best to stay in the team.”
He and Sonny Bradley have formed a solid partnership which has seen the team keep four clean sheets since in those last matches and Lockyer had plenty of good words to say about the skipper.
“I thought he was excellent today, I thought we handled Armstrong really well. I told him that as well, half-time, after the game, I thought he done magnificently.
“We’re starting to understand each other’s games a lot more now and that only helps, especially in defence like that. We’ve had a talk and we have set ourselves a clean-sheet target for the season and I’m just really gutted we couldn’t add one today.”
Town return to Kenilworth Road on Saturday with Huddersfield Town the visitors and the former Charlton man hopes the team can rediscover their goalscoring touch and get back to winning ways whilst they are at it.
"You always want to be scoring goals and you always want to be banging them in but that isn’t always the case. We have a good strike force, I think it is just a matter of time because I’ve seen the work that they do, day-in and day-out in training.
“It feels like we haven’t been back home in ages so it will be good to get a run there and hopefully we can get our home form going again and pick up a few results.”
