Iwhiwhu, Stitt and Xavier-Jones on target as Hatters youngsters win again

The Hatters’ Under-18s maintained their fine recent form as they saw off Youth Alliance league leaders Cheltenham to make it three league wins in a row with a 3-2 victory at The Brache.

Joe Deeney’s side fell behind in the 11th minute but were soon level as Tate Xavier-Jones set-up Jordan Iwhiwhu to tap home to level the score eight minutes later.

After the equaliser the young Hatters dominated and on the half-hour mark Dylan Stitt burst forward from midfield and slotted a calm finish beyond the Cheltenham goalkeeper.

The Town continued from where they left off at the start of the second half and only a combination of inspired goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the score 2-1.

But on 53 minutes the third goal did arrive when Xavier-Jones got the goal his performance deserved when finding the target with a fine finish.

More chances came and went for the Hatters but with the last kick of the game, deep into injury time, Cheltenham pulled another goal – but it mattered not and the Town could celebrate another three points.

“That is probably the most dominant 3-2 win you will ever see,” Deeney said afterwards. “I’m delighted, it was an outstanding performance from start to finish.

“We had 27 shots on goal and only their goalkeeper and our finishing meant we didn’t score more.

“The manner in which we conceded the two goals was disappointing but it has been a great week and I’m delighted with the performance overall.”
