The Town Under-18s went down 3-2 to Peterborough in their Professional Development League Cup tie on Saturday morning.

Joe Deeney’s side took the lead in the 28th minute when Archie Shepherd fizzed in a cross and Matthew Takawira headed home well from inside the penalty area.

Peterborough levelled four minutes before the break but the Town were back in front before half-time courtesy of an own goal from a Posh defender.

However, a 10-minute spell in the second period saw Peterborough come from behind to lead, firstly from the penalty spot before a mistake in the Hatters defence led to Posh taking the lead.

The Town could not force home an equaliser and Deeney was left to lament a disappointing spell in the second half.

“The manner in which we conceded the three goals was very frustrating and it was disappointing that we did not show the resilience of losing the lead to test their goalkeeper and find an equaliser,” said Deeney.

“There are again lessons the lads will take from this game. We’re defending well on the whole but at the moment every single mistake is being punished and ultimately it’s those that are costing us.”

Town: Booth, Roberts-Edema, Fox, Ioannides, Emery, Sampson, Asamoah, Stitt, Hincapie-Alfonso, Xavier-Jones, Shepherd.

Subs: Thomas, Iwhiwhu, Takawira, Harvey, Odegah.
