The Town Under-18s continued their rich vein of goalscoring form as they thumped Bristol Rovers 5-0 on Saturday to make it 14 goals in three games.

Joe Deeney’s side almost fell behind in the opening stages only to see the Pirates miss a penalty.

But in the 20th minute, the young Hatters took the lead when Michael Takawira raced clear of the Rovers' defence to finish well.

It was soon 2-0 when Charlie Trustram was fouled in the box and he stepped up to fire home the resultant penalty.

Rovers threatened to reduce the deficit early in the second half but the Town soon regained control, going three goals ahead in the 73rd minute when Enoch Sampson got on the end of an inswinging Trustram cross.

And it was 4-0 three minutes later when substitute Samuel Hincapie-Alfonso tucked home Isaiah Harvey’s cross.

The scoring was complete eight minutes from time when Hincapie-Alfonso crossed for Trustram to net his second of the afternoon to seal a comfortable win.

A happy Deeney said afterwards: “Overall it was an excellent win where, bar a slow start, I thought we acquitted ourselves well.

“Credit has to go to all the players – they have had a really positive week in training and showed a clinical edge in the big moments.

“We got stronger as the game went on and could have had more goals. We played with much greater ball speed in the second half which created a lot more attacking opportunities. Naturally, we’re delighted with a second clean sheet in a row, too.”
