Teden called up for England Under-21s

Defender called up for games against Ukraine and Azerbaijan

Teden Mengi in action for England U21s on his debut in the 7-0 win over Luxembourg at Bolton in March 2024

Hatters defender Teden Mengi has been called up from the England Under-21 standby list to join Ben Futcher's squad for their Euro 2025 qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

The 22-year-old made his U21 debut in the 7-0 win over Luxembourg at Bolton earlier this year, and is now in line to win his second cap in the home fixtures over the international break.

The first takes place at Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium on Friday at 7.45pm, with group leaders Ukraine - who have won all eight of their games so far - having already beaten the Young Lions 3-2 in Poland last October.

That match is followed by a 7.30pm kick-off next Tuesday against Azerbaijan at Bristol City's Ashton Gate, with England having won the first encounter 5-1 in Baku.

Futcher's side are currently second in Group F, five points behind Ukraine with two games to play. Azerbaijan are bottom with three points from their eight games.

He is the fifth Luton Town player to head off on international duty, with Zack Nelson and Joe Johnson also in England age group squad at U20 and U19 level, Mark McGuinness in the senior Republic of Ireland squad for the first time, and Marvelous Nakamba joining up with Zimbabwe for their AFCON qualifiers. All the info for their matches can be found HERE.

Good luck, Ted!
