His goal and Elliot Lee’s were enough to give the Hatters a comfortable 2-0 win in what could prove vital at the end of the season. As things stand, Town are two points adrift of safety with three matches remaining and Sonny made sure to point out how good a win it was.
“I think in the grand scheme of things, it’s a good result. Obviously, it brings them (Huddersfield) back into the mix, I think if they had won today, they would have probably left feeling like they are safe, so it brings us a little bit closer to getting out and it brings them back into the mix. Three big games to go and three games that we need to try and win.
There were few chances for either side during the first half but Town came to life in the second period.
“There wasn’t any real chances in the game until the goal goes in,” Bradley admitted. “Then after that Collo has a good chance, should make it 2-0 and then we get the goal with Elliot and all of a sudden, it’s game over. We were solid all day so when it went 2-0, I think we played the game well and got the result we needed.
Under Nathan Jones since the Championship restart and baring the defeat against Reading, the Hatters have been strong defensively and the 28-year-old was full of praise for his teammates.
“Credit to us, if you take the Reading game for example, we were bad that day there is no denying it but we’ve come back and we’ve been solid. We haven’t conceded many chances, let alone goals so we knew today if we were on it defensively, if we stayed in our shape and kept our discipline that we would possibly nullify their chances and that is what’s happened. I’m really delighted that we got a clean sheet for the back four and for Simon.”
On his goal that opened the scoring yesterday, his third of the season of which all three have come when Town are live on Sky Sports, the defender said: “I’m glad you got that in, I was going to tell you anyway! It’s just a coincidence, it’s a good ball in, a great ball in. We actually set up the wrong corner, there was three of us doing one thing and three of us doing another.
“The ball was meant to go front post I was told afterwards but Matty will say it all the time, if that ball is put into a good area and you’ve got players in the box who want to attack that ball, you’ve got a chance of scoring. It’s a wonderful ball in, I haven’t really run on to it, I’ve just stood there, stayed strong and got a good contact on it and it has gone in.”
