After a working life at Bedford Trucks/Vauxhall Motors, where he rose to the position of Distribution and Marketing Manager, John took early retirement in 1985 but, rather than sit back, he took up a position at Kenilworth Road organising pitch hire on the newly laid artificial surface. John then became Assistant Secretary to Bill Tomlins before assuming the top job after the latter left in 1992.
A Luton Town supporter all his life, John had helped at the club on a volunteer basis on matchdays for many years before becoming a full-time employee and also found time to be Secretary of the North Home Counties Sunday League.
After leaving the club in 1995 John, a Justice of the Peace, was active in the village community of Streatley and spent much time tending his large garden.
Our condolences go out to all his friends and family.
