MATCH PREVIEW | LUTON TOWN V CHARLTON ATHLETIC

The Hatters host Charlton Athletic at Kenilworth Road tonight as Graeme Jones’ side look to build on their promising performance against Leeds United.

After suffering late heartbreak in a 2-1 defeat, Town can take plenty of positives into the game against Lee Bowyer’s side, who currently sit in 13th place.

Without a win in their last five matches, Charlton most recently drew 2-2 with Cardiff City on Saturday, but a victory in this fixture could take them as high as ninth in the table.

Town start the game in the relegation zone on goal difference, but a valuable three points could see them rise up into 20th position.

GRAEME JONES SAID:

On Charlton: “I think they have recruited well, they have got more points than us and they have had a really solid start to the season. Speaking to Mick Harford, they were the ones that he was concerned about and managed to stay ahead of them, I think they have progressed really well.

“It looks like they have had a three or four week break in the summer only, so they never lost too much. They’ve been competitive in every game and they will be competitive on Tuesday night. Lee Bowyer’s teams, you remember Lee Bowyer the player, his teams represent him without a doubt and we will have to earn the right if we’re going to get anything from the game.

On the rest of the campaign: “It’s a 29 game season now, that’s where we are. Everybody knew, we need to finish fourth bottom, minimum. That’s a minimum requirement, we’ve slipped in by one goal, so the target hasn’t changed. The second of May the league finishes – we need to be above the bottom three.

“We might win the next three and all of a sudden you’re in midtable, and then you think ‘what was the worry about, the Leeds period was essential for us’, nobody knows what’s going to happen in football. You have got to work hard for your conscience and try and improve people and max out and that’s what we’re doing.”
