GRAEME JONES | "I HAVE CHALLENGED THE BOYS TO REPEAT THE SAME LEVEL TOMORROW NIGHT"

Hatters boss Graeme Jones wants his side to replicate their performance levels from Saturday’s game against Leeds United when they take on Charlton Athletic tomorrow evening.

The game represents the Town with the opportunity to bounce-back from the defeat – having conceded late on in a 2-1 loss.

Pleased with his side’s performance, Jones believes the international break gave them the opportunity to work on areas, which he believed was apparent against the Whites.

He said: “I am pleased the games are coming thick and fast. I think when you analyse the weekend, it was a great platform for us going forward. I have challenged the boys to repeat the same level tomorrow night, that’s all I am interested in, because the level was really, really high on Saturday in every area, a performance from a coaching point of view I was really proud of – not proud of the result. I think romance in football isn’t there, you have to earn it, we were three minutes short, that’s the only disappointment.

“Everybody is together here and everybody is responsible, from the board to myself, to the players and I love that, because I would know if people weren’t giving everything and we are and we’re absolutely maxing out.

“But I think the Leeds preparation, the 13 days have taken us to another level. We analysed everywhere and we improved in every area, because if we hadn’t, then Leeds can inflict some damage and we were competitive until the last seconds of the game.

“We’ve had five defeats on the trot and I think you know me by now, I don’t hide from things, that’s the reality. I think we’re still coming to terms with the league in certain aspects, but it isn’t getting any harder than Leeds at home – well, it does, Leeds away. But, it’s not getting any harder than Leeds.

"They test you in every single area, you think about their rotation, you think they’re chasing a goal, they defend one-v-one and put nine bodies forward, you think about their physicality, you think about their technical ability, you think about their substitutions. I think Costa went for £17 million or whatever it was to Wolves and we’ve competed and that gave me great, great satisfaction.

“So I don’t think there’s any need to have any more conversations about budgets or anything because my players, our players showed that they can compete for 90 minutes and be level on the score-line with the best team in the league, so I would rather take that aspect from the game than anything else.

“I have challenged the players for the same level of performance, so I want that first and foremost, so if we get that, then we will get a result. It’s about standards, no two games in the Championship are the same.  So the challenge is to repeat what we did at the weekend in every area and if we do that, we will get a result.”
