James Shea | "We're just enjoying the ride"

James Shea is hoping that the Hatters’ rich vein of form will continue after the international break for the remaining eight games of the campaign.

Three wins in the last five matches have propelled Nathan Jones’ side into 3rd place in the Sky Bet Championship, a position they will look to maintain come the end of the season.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Shea elaborated on exactly that, saying: “Momentum is massive, absolutely massive, especially in the Championship. We’ve got a good group of boys with us at the minute and we’ve had a few injuries lately so whoever comes in has stepped up and kept the chain going.

“Within the group we always had the belief where we could try and sneak into the play-offs, that was the belief of the team. We wanted to improve on last season, we finished 12th and for us where we stayed up on the last day of the season the season before, it was just about improving.

“Before the season started we thought we made a few good signings, we thought maybe get in and around the play-offs and to be fair, the momentum just keeps going and going. You turn up to games thinking you can win every game.”

Having recently made his 100th appearance as a Luton Town player, the 30-year-old spoke of the progression from League Two to the Championship, with a number of those teammates still on the journey too.

“We have come a long way in such a short time to be fair. It just shows you the togetherness of the group, we’ve been there in League Two together and we’ve come up through the leagues. We’ve added one or two along the way to add that bit of quality, but the main core of the group is from League Two, a few of the boys have even been in the Conference.

Manager Nathan Jones has similarly been involved with the group on this exceptional journey and the keeper said: “He is passionate, he loves the team, and he loves us players. He will stick up for us till the last day of the season, he backs us one million per cent and you’ve seen what he’s like.

"After Swansea he was in with the crowd, he gets the boys going when we need it and even on the weekend, you see how much it means to him.

“He knows everything, the club, the players, the players know him and how to get a reaction. The boys want to play for him which is a massive thing, you see his enthusiasm every single day and it helps that we’ve been together since League Two, we know how he works and he knows how we work, it’s a match made in heaven really.”

“We’re just enjoying the ride at the minute,” Shea added. “We’re going into games enjoying our football and it always helps when you win of course.

Hopefully we can get in the play-offs, we’ve been on a real good run lately and we have a nice little break now to rest and recover. We’re going to take each game as it comes and see where it takes us."
