International football comes to Luton next Monday night when England men’s Under-21s host Austria in a friendly at Kenilworth Road.
The Young Lions will have a new manager with a Luton Town connection for the 7.45pm kick-off, as Ben Futcher will take charge of his second game as interim Under-21 lead coach at the ground where his dad, Paul, and uncle Ron spent four years as players in the 1970s.
Ben, who was born three years after the twins' departure for Manchester City in 1978, has progressed through the FA's coaching ranks after a playing career as a centre-half with the likes of Oldham, Doncaster, Lincoln, Grimsby, Peterborough and Bury, among others.
The game will take place on Monday 9th September, following on from England's UEFA U21 EURO qualifying game in Northern Ireland on Friday 6th September and will be the Young Lions’ first home fixture since their 7-0 win over Luxembourg at Bolton Wanderers in March.
Futcher's team currently sit joint top of Group F alongside Ukraine in the race for next summer’s U21 EURO Finals in Slovakia, with this game providing the new coach with a chance to continue preparing for October’s home double against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
The under-21s’ last game at Kenilworth Road came back in February 1993, when England beat San Marino by 6-0 with goals coming from Richard Hall, Darren Anderton, Garry Flitcroft, Mike Sheron, Jamie Redknapp and Steve McManaman.
Tickets for the game cost £15 for adults or £10 for Luton Town season ticket holders and members and concessions (66+, U22 & U17) are £7.50 or £5 for Luton Town season ticket holders and members.
