After the Hatters fell two goals behind, Cornick halved the deficit on the stroke of halftime, with the forward - who will begin his fifth season with the Hatters next Saturday - feeling that his side competed well against their high-quality opposition.
“It was a good test, I think obviously they’re a great side, they’ve got great players so [we knew] it was going to be a tough game”
“We battled well, I thought we created chances but it wasn’t our day today, we didn’t take our chances and a few sloppy goals for them and it looks like an easy game for them, but I thought we were right at it for the ninety.”
“That’s what it’s like at the very top, you give them one chance and they’ll score.”
After finishing with composure following a mistake from Seagull’s defender Dan Burn, Luton’s forward was keen to stress the importance of doing the same when it really counts.
“If they could pass to me every time then that would be lovely!”
“I’m happy with the goal, it gives me a bit of confidence going into the season but next Saturday is where it really counts, so put this behind us and hopefully I’ll score on Saturday and we’ll win that one.”
After playing almost the entirety of last season behind closed doors, the Town’s final two pre-season friendlies marked the return of fans to Kenilworth Road, and Luton’s speed man expressed his excitement at the return of a “rocking” home atmosphere next weekend.
“We’ve missed the fans a lot here, it’s a taste of what we’ve had in the last two weeks…it’s a taste of what the fans are like. They’re always singing, they’re unbelievable so once they get this place rocking it’s going to be a fortress again hopefully.
“It’s the same for the away days as well, I think the away fans for Luton are the best in the league…they always travel in their numbers, sing their hearts out and I can’t wait to see them travelling up and down the country again because I know they’ve missed the football, but we’ve missed them just as much.”
