The Hatters haven’t picked up a point on the road since the 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers on 21st September, with Jones’ team travelling to Preston North End this Saturday.
Jones said: “I am considering it [moving away from the diamond], obviously we haven’t got lots of time to put that into practice, so you always run a risk from an understanding point of view.
“I think application in the diamond in terms of being consistent with the performance for 90 minutes isn’t a problem, it’s whether you can do that three games in a week. The last time out we didn’t. We performed well against Leeds, we performed well against Charlton, we couldn’t repeat it against Brentford. So it’s something amongst many other things I am looking into.
“That’s the biggest one, the mental energy because you can’t have an off day, you can’t have an off moment in the game. We made one mistake and McClean puts it in the back of the net. In League One you might ride that, I would suggest you would ride that, we’d get back at people. This level your throat is cut and you start again.
“It was the next 15 minutes that bothered me, that’s what I have spoken to them about. I am hoping to see some improvement this weekend.”
On the Stoke City match, the gaffer wants to see his side learn from the defeat, with the opportunity to take home three points on offer on Saturday.
“You do calm down a little bit, because you get the chance to get rid of your anger with the players, in a little bit more of a constructive way – rather than heat of the moment, emotional. We’ve had a meeting this morning, the players know where we are, they know what we have to do,” he continued.
“I think they do [have to move on], it comes from myself, if I am lingering on about it, they’ll linger on about it. It’s done, it wasn’t what we wanted, we have to learn from it and as long we learn from it, there’ll be progress, so onto Preston.
“It’s another opportunity for three points, another opportunity to find solutions. We have got lots of away games left this season, so we have got to find a formula.”
