It was a fast start from the young Hatters, who hit the front after just two minutes. Jake Burger was fouled in the area and dispatched the following penalty, before Ben Stevens made it two after 20 minutes.
Their rampant start continued after Darcey Moffat produced the finishing touch after some nice, intricate play to make it 3-0 before the half-an-hour mark.
A further goal from Ben Stevens ended any hopes of a late fightback from Southend, who did manage to reply with two goals of their own in the latter stages.
