Luton Town Football Club and public services in Bedfordshire are reminding supporters to stay at home on Wednesday as the Hatters season reaches its exciting conclusion.
Luton Town play Blackburn Rovers on the 22nd July, with the match kicking off at 7:30pm. The match is the final game of the 2019-20 season which has been affected by the Coronavirus crisis and lockdown.
As with all of the matches since football returned, the game will take place behind closed doors at Kenilworth Road, where there will be no access to the public.
Strict plans have been put in place by the EFL and Luton Town to ensure government guidelines are met and the safety of everyone involved is of the highest priority.
The match will be available to stream live via the Club’s iFollow platform, where season ticket holders who have been provided with access codes will be able to watch the game. Match passes are also available for £10 from the Club’s website.
Hatters legend Mick Harford, the former player, manager and now chief recruitment officer and assistant-manager, said: “The Luton Town fans have been fantastic, not just in their support for the lads during this time, but in also in respecting the request to stay away from the ground. It’s a big game on Wednesday, and we understand how much our supporters will want to get behind the boys. But with other towns and cities in England having new restrictions imposed as a result of a resurgence in the virus, it’s just as important as ever to keep a distance.
“Even though the fans are not there in person, we know they’re right behind team and we’ll do our best to make them proud on Wednesday night.”
PC Rich Howlett from Bedfordshire Police said: “Please continue to stay alert to the virus and don’t gather in groups – especially as the season comes to a close.
“It may be tempting to visit the ground, but the best way to support the Hatters is by watching the game at home and preventing the spread of the virus. This is a step in the right direction and we can all help to get the game we love back by continuing to follow government guidance.”
Cllr Sian Timoney, Deputy Leader of Luton Council, said: “I know so many of you are excited about the match, especially with the Hatters so close to keeping their place in the Championship.
“But can I remind you all that we are still fighting a deadly virus so please don’t gather in groups or meet up with friends to watch the game. The risk is far too high. Stay at home and support the team on Wednesday.”
