The Hatters were good value for their lead at the break after Cameron Jerome scored his fifth Luton goal but QPR fought back in the second half, ending a run of two consecutive defeats prior to the match.
Reflecting on proceedings after the match, Lockyer admitted: "It was a strange one really because I think it’s probably the best we have played in a while, but we end up losing the game.
"Recently we haven’t played too well, and we’ve been getting the results but I think for the first time today is the best we’ve played and we haven’t come away with anything which is really frustrating.
"There wasn’t a lot in it for them. We had a few more chances and we have to be a bit more clinical. Kal will be disappointed he gave the penalty away and then when they put it away, they had their tales up then.
"Even still defending and attacking set pieces have been a real positive for us this season but we’ve been done at the front post where it just needed someone to take control of the situation and just head it away.
“All the lads are a bit down in there but the good thing about this hectic schedule is that we can go again Wednesday."
With that in mind, a positive mindset is essential for Lockyer and his teammates, with 10 games left to play in the Sky Bet Championship this season, all of which will hold a great deal of importance.
"We’re looking up the table, we are not looking behind us. For us to stumble today is really frustrating. It’s so tight up there now, every game counts and there’s 10 games to go, 10 massive games coming up and it would be amazing if we could win them all. We have to keep going, keep plugging away and see where we end up at the end."
