The Hatters were below-par in the first period and found themselves with a mountain to climb but they did just that with three second half goals, including a second goal for the Hatters from Tunnicliffe himself.
Interestingly, the midfielder revealed that manager Nathan Jones left the players to their thoughts at half-time, something he felt was a brilliant decision.
“Usually he is in tinkering, telling us what went wrong but I think he just left us to our own thoughts and to be fair a few of the boys spoke up and said a few home truths. Then he came in, made some changes, geed us up and sent us out which I think was perfect in the situation.”
Kal Naismith swiftly brought the Town back into the game, before the former Manchester United youngster smashed home an equaliser to set up a grand stand finale.
“I’ve been working on that, I know I need to add goals to my game and I feel like I’m a powerful runner, it is just about recognising where the space is.
Obviously when we break, I don’t think there are many people that can stay with me if I decide I want to score the goal, it is just about having that determination.”
He also added that one thing would have made the afternoon better – the presence of Hatters fans in the stadium.
“It would have been nice, the manner of the game as well, I would have loved to hear the roar of 10,000 in here. They would have been buzzing with it, I’m sure they were happy at home to see me get the equaliser and I’m made up!”
The fightback was one that Tunnicliffe believed is testament to the team spirit at the club, who never gave up despite the tricky task at hand.
“I think that shows the character of the lads. Obviously we have not been in the greatest of form recently, a few defeats, a few draws. So to be two-nil down at half-time and show character like we did, I think that speaks volumes of the lads.
“When we score and it’s 2-2, half an hour to go, we didn’t need to change anything. We were on top, kept pressing, kept playing the same way and luckily the big man has got up.”
