Fans have been eagerly awaiting news all summer regarding his situation and the midfielder finally put minds at ease by penning a new deal, a decision Mpanzu said he had not taken lightly.

“I’ve come back from international duty and had to sort a few things out, but now it’s over the hump, it’s time to get to work hopefully ready for the beginning of the season. Hopefully we get another good season under our belts, I know we’ve got a great squad here, I have met all the boys so hopefully we can do something special this season.

“It is not a decision I have taken lightly. Clubs were interested but I’ve made the decision to stay at Luton. I know it’s going to be a great season, so it’s good to get it over the road and hopefully we start off with a win against Peterborough.”

Continuing, the 27-year-old wanted to reiterate: “My whole focus now is on Luton, hopefully I can have another great season, injury free, I’m hoping God will bless me with that.

“When you are at a club like Luton it’s easy to stay, sometimes you think, do I want to do this, do I want to do that, but I’ve been from the Conference with Luton, they’ve made me from a boy to a man so I’ve got to give them all the praise and all the love.

Manager Nathan Jones also played a big part in Pelly’s decision to remain a Hatter, as the midfielder added: “Since Nathan has come in, I’ve played the most amount of games I’ve played in my career. Before I had an injury here, injury there, but Nathan’s come in with Jared and the relationship has always been good.

“Even if I did not sign for Luton, he said you go with my blessing, but I re-signed for Luton and our relationship is still strong. He’s still pushing me, the past couple of days and when the season starts he’ll be pushing me week in, week out to perform how I want to perform, so I’ve got to give him credit also.”

As alluded to earlier, supporters were anxious to hear news about his situation all summer and when the official announcement was released, there was plenty of excitement surrounding the new deal!

“I’ve seen it when they @ me. I haven’t been on social media too much, but it has been a great reaction. I’m happy for them and hopefully I can return that. Life’s about being positive and making people happy!”
