Though the 3-0 defeat was disappointing, Town will reflect on a good week overall, picking up six out of an available nine points.

It was a lively start to the encounter at Carrow Road and the Hatters could have found themselves a goal to the good, but James Collins struck the post from close range.

“We didn’t start too badly but once they get a goal at home, I think it’s difficult and to concede just before half-time has made it a lot harder for ourselves, but to be fair, we didn’t give up. They are a good team, and they took their chances when they got them.

“If that goes in (Collins’ effort) it changes the game. Likewise they changed the game when they scored their goals so it’s just fine margins. I don’t think any of us let ourselves down, we have gone out there and given it our best shot, but they are top of the league and running away with it, you could see the quality today.”

Manager Nathan Jones made five changes to the starting line-up who beat Nottingham Forest on Tuesday in preparation for another midweek fixture against Rotherham, which was later postponed.

However, the defender believes the strong is squad enough whoever is selected to play and is aware the gaffer has plenty of options across the pitch.

“Our bench is strong. The three changes made us better and vice versa if the lads that went off had come on. We’ve got a good enough squad to chop and change who we need. People have different qualities, bringing Elijah one gives you a different focal point and Cornick with his pace.”

For consecutive weekend matches now, the 27-year-old has worn the captain’s armband for the Hatters, to which he added: “It is an honour to captain Luton, we’ve got a number of leaders – Glen Rea, Collo, Sonny, we have loads of boys who can step up so I don’t see it as a big issue, we have a number of leaders out there. We don’t need a specific captain, we have enough experience within the lads.”

Looking ahead, Pearson is hoping Town can continue their good performances of late to reach the 50-point mark and strive to finish as high as they can in the table.

“Looking at the fixtures, we have a few fixtures – Coventry and Rotherham – teams around us, then we have a few tough games like Swansea but when we are at home, I fancy us against anyone.

“I want to finish as high as we can, every game we are going in to win. It is not set up to chase a point, even today we came with a game plan to win the game. It is not set up shop and nick a draw, we came to win and that is our focus going forward.”
