Striker James Collins was disappointed the Hatters couldn’t pick up all three points in yesterday’s tightly contested draw against Huddersfield Town.

After giving Town the lead in the 11th minute, Collins had hoped they were able to build on a good first-half performance, but the Terriers found a route back into the game through Naby Sarr in the second period.

“We are disappointed we didn’t win the game.” The striker admitted. “We had more chances to win the game I think, especially the one before half-time where we hit the post and if that goes in, we are two-nil up at half-time and we would like to think we’d see it out.

“They put us under a bit of pressure in the second half so in the end I’d probably say a draw was a fair result but still feel disappointed we didn’t win the game.”

After rounding off a good team goal, Collins tallied his tenth goal of the campaign – reaching double figures for the seventh successive season.

“On a personal note, I’m obviously delighted to score. It has been a while so to get on the scoresheet and put us one-up is great. Credit to Harry as well, he has put it on a plate for me.

It was the first time the striker had scored since the 3-0 win against Preston North End in December, a run he was delighted to put a stop to.

“It happens in football, it has happened before and it is probably going to happen again at some point but just have to keep working hard, keep battling away and one will eventually drop.”

Following the Deadline Day additions of Elijah Adebayo and Tom Ince, the Republic of Ireland international has praised the recruitment, adding that competition is what he and his team-mates want.

“I think the recruitment at this football club, ever since I’ve been here anyway has always been fantastic. It doesn’t surprise me that we have been able to get someone with the calibre of Tom and credit goes to the gaffer, the staff and the board because they rarely get it wrong with signings.

“You want competition for your place, so you don’t get too easy and don’t get too sloppy. To have someone chomping at the bit is only going to be good for the squad.”

Soon to enter another busy period of midweek followed by Saturday matches, Collo added: “I think our performances this season have shown that we are more than capable of matching anyone in this league.

“We’ve beaten some of the best, but I think today, especially at home, we see these as opportunities to make ground on the league and we are disappointed we didn’t get three points.

“We love playing here, it’s a shame the fans aren’t here because we love playing in front of them. Our home performances have got to be spot on this year we know that.”
