The midfielder started against Rotherham United and yesterday versus Huddersfield Town, and his hard work was rewarded with a good finish to give the Hatters the lead at the John Smith’s Stadium.
It extends a fantastic record in which Moncur has now scored eight times in just 12 starts since signing for the club in January 2019 and the former West Ham youngster was in good spirits after the final whistle.
“Like I say in every interview that I give, I give thanks to Jesus first because without him I wouldn’t be here so all glory to him but also thanks to the manager for putting faith in me to go and show what I can do. I’m really happy for my team mates, we’ve picked up an important four points on the road.”
On his goal, the first he has scored since his last-minute winner against Wigan Athletic last season, Moncs said: “I remember the person marking me was a little bit off, I thought if I can just get across him, I’ll have a chance.
“When I saw the ball coming over, I think he switched off for a second and I put faith in my contact because I know I have good technique so just concentrated on hitting the ball and thankfully it went in.”
Moncur made his first league starts of the season in the away trips to Yorkshire this week and understands the tricky task Nathan Jones is presented with trying to pick the team.
“He has a very difficult job because I mean there are 25 real good players in there, and he can only pick 11 plus the subs. I want to thank him for what he has done, how he’s tried to improve my mindset. He’s sort of the first manager that has tried to knuckle down off the ball with me, I think it’s really working and hopefully I can carry on.
“I don’t try and get too happy or too low because that is the character that I am but I’m really happy with myself. I think defensively I have tried to get better and I think that is the reason I’ve probably got in now. I’ve tried to knuckle down and that is what I’m going to focus on going forward.”
The 27-year-old admitted there was an opportunity to leave the club in the summer but his loyalty lies with the Hatters as he described his admiration for the club and his fellow team-mates.
“It is hard because I really want to be here and all my career it hasn’t worked out consistently anywhere, but I can’t really do anything about that apart from now.
“I’m just going to affect what I can in terms of defensively and see where it gets me because years have gone by where I haven’t knuckled down on that and that is what has let me down. But, now the penny has dropped, maybe it’s a bit late but I will just keep going and see if I can improve.
“I love it here, I’ve always say that. I enjoy the boys and everything, we’ve got great characters in the dressing room but I know deep down that I’ve got good ability but it is just working out now where I really knuckled that side down. I’ve just got to keep improving on that I think.”
