The defender was in the right place at the right time to score from close range, which in turn provided the Town with their first win at St Andrews since 1986.
"We knew we had to do the basics well today and I thought we did that to a man.” Potts admitted. “We got the goal and I thought we defended really well from the front and we managed to see it out and get the win.
“I thought we were in control for the majority and as I say getting the goal helps. I thought we nullified them well and we knew what we had to do to get the result we got, and I thought the game plan worked well.”
All five of Luton’s away victories in the league this season have finished 1-0, and a resolute defence is pleasing for the left-back.
“If you don’t concede, you only need one goal and that seems to be a common thing for us this year – 1-0 away wins – went to Bournemouth and we were unlucky in the Blackburn game.
“We were disappointed the way the goal went in and as I said, if you don’t concede, the minimum you get is a 0-0 so at the moment it is good because it’s only taking one goal to win games, especially away from home.”
Pottsy heaped praised on Nathan Jones, whom he credits for continuously pushing him to be a better player as the season progresses.
“He has always been good to me. He is always pushing me, wanting more and it works well, it is something I always thrive on. It is healthy constructive criticism.
“You never want to be comfortable. You never want to be complacent because then you take your foot off the gas, you want to keep pushing and striving.
“I think that is replicated in where we are now, we are a few wins away from really doing something. That is the mentality within us now, we’re looking up and back-to-back wins would certainly help that.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday night – under the Sky Sports cameras at home to Cardiff City – Potts expects another difficult challenge as with all games in the Championship.
“It is going to be another tough game. Earlier on this season they got one over on us so we will definitely be trying to put that right, that is for sure.”
