Bell’s goal in the fourth minute was enough to earn the Town three points and was the first time he had been on the scoresheet since March 2019, and what a calm and composed finish it was too!

“As the ball came to me, I thought I’m going to hit it,” the defender admitted. “I believe in myself to get it on target and put it in the position I wanted to, and it came off, so I’m happy with that!”

The Hatters had plenty of incentive to put on a good show beforehand, as Bell said: “It was a great result, after the last game especially. We had to make sure we got the win here and before the game, with Big Mick starting his treatment we had to make sure we did it for him and I thought the boys did themselves justice today and got the result.

“We knew in the last match we weren’t at the races, and we had to show today that we would come back, and we did so it gives us some good momentum for the next game.”

The Jamaica international is hopeful that supporters will see more from him as the season continues, adding: “There is definitely more to come, I’m very critical of myself so I know there is a lot more to come. The next few games I hope to show the fans a bit more about me.

“It has been difficult because pre-season, it was a new team for me, and I didn’t really get the tactics and information the rest of the boys got so you could say it has halted me a little bit, but now I am getting there.”

Nathan Jones’ side were backed by 748 away supporters at Oakwell and the team now have two home fixtures in a row in-front of the passionate fan base, which is something the left-back is relishing.

"We need to keep the momentum from today for the home game on Saturday. With the fans in they will help us all the way through and it is going to be exciting.”
