German midfielder set to feature while Walters returns from illness but it's too soon for Baptiste

On-loan midfielder Tom Krauß is in contention to feature for the first time for the Hatters as Rob Edwards’ side welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has been recovering from an ankle injury since arriving from Mainz in August.

And now the German youth international is ready for a place in the squad for the weekend visit of the Owls.

“We have good headaches right now with a strong squad to pick from,” said the Edwards at his Friday press call. “They’ll always be spanners in the works at some point but right now we have great strength in depth.

“Tom won’t take too long to get up to the speed or intensity, especially from what we’ve seen from him in training.”

Edwards confirmed that the game will come too soon for Shandon Baptiste after the midfielder missed last week’s 1-0 win at Millwall after tweaking a hamstring.

Reuell Walters, however, does come back into the manager’s thinking after illness kept him out of the victory at The Den.

Jacob Brown is closer to featuring as he continues to train following a knee injury picked up last season.

“He’s trained for a couple of weeks now but he now faces competition for a place against people who are more up to speed fitness-wise.

“But he’s another week along and inching closer. He’s one who, like Mads Andersen, is coming back into a really competitive group so it will be difficult to get in and get past people straight away.

“It’s great to have him back and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet. We saw glimpses in the Premier League last season but he’s pushing. He’s got the mindset that he’s ready – and he’s made that known to me.”

The Town go into the game aiming for their first home win of the season after defeats to Burnley and QPR – but Edwards knows three points won’t be easy to come by against the Owls.

He said: “It’ll be lovely to back it up, that’s the aim we’ve had this week – to build on the things we did well last week and the things we need to improve and keep working on.

“Sheffield Wednesday run hard, they’re intense, fast and counter-press well.

“We’ll need to match their intensity and be brave ourselves and attack the game in the right moments.”
