RYAN TUNNICLIFFE ON FACING HIS FORMER SIDE MILLWALL

Ryan Tunnicliffe is set to face Millwall for the first time since leaving The Den in the summer – a challenge he is massively looking forward to.

The 26-year-old spent two years with the Lions after moving from Fulham in 2017 and knows all about the threats they possess.

Tunnicliffe has since played every minute in the Town’s Championship campaign, and bears no grudges against his former side for his release.

“I know how football works,” Tunnicliffe explained. “It’s a ruthless game and they decided they wanted to move on and that’s that really, no hard feelings.”

Whilst the midfielder admitted this was a game he “circled on the calendar”, Tunnicliffe won’t be changing his style of play.

He said: “It won’t make me try extra hard or anything like that, I’ll go into the game as I would any other. I won’t be trying to make myself look good and shoot on sight, I’ll just play how I normally play and hopefully we get the result.”

The Town are eyeing a second successive victory after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday, with the midfielder expecting a tricky fixture this evening.

Ryan said: “I think they’re a good, solid team. The way they set up is difficult to play against, being there I know that. Matt Smith’s a handful, proven at this level, he’s a big man. Jed Wallace is a bright spark for them, playing with them for the past two years, he was always an out ball, so I think those are the people you have to look for.

“They’re a good team, they’ve had a decent start and so it will be a tough game.”

With the match being played at Kenilworth Road, under the lights and live on telly, Tunnicliffe described the game as “one to get the juices flowing.”

“When I first arrived here, that’s one I would have circled on the calendar. I’ve still got some friends there that I speak to, so I’m massively looking forward to it.”

The Hatters are hoping to secure their first home victory since defeating Huddersfield back at the end of August, something the 26-year-old believes the team owe the supporters.

“The fans to their credit, stuck with us (against Hull), we collapsed a bit in the last five minutes which is uncharacteristic,” he continued.

“We need to bounce back and perform for the home fans that have come out every single game, packed the stadium out and give them something to cheer about.”
