Rob looks ahead to Portsmouth

Rob Edwards spoke to the media on Friday ahead of the trip to Fratton Park to face newly promoted Portsmouth.

The Hatters will want to get their first three points on the board after opening day defeat to fellow relegated side Burnley at the Kenny.

Edwards was open about some of the areas they need to improve on from Monday night if they are to get a result against Pompey.

“We looked back at some of the mistakes we made,” said the boss. “We are always striving for more and pushing the players for more.

“If we get some of our play out of possession right and improve our defensive work and attacking work, we know we are hard to play against.”

The Town travel to last season’s League One winners Pompey following their opening day 3-3 draw to Leeds United at Elland Road.

Edwards praised this weekend's opponents and thinks they will be a tough test: “I think they can mix the play up well; they can be direct and with Lang they are powerful they will try and play at a tempo and have a go at us.

“It’s a really difficult game against a team that are playing well at the moment and are well up for it.”

The gaffer also discussed the solution to players being out injured reassuring fans not to worry about the squad.

“We want to be able to move and improve, if that means getting someone in that helps us then that’s good but there’s no point getting someone in that won’t help even if it just fills numbers.”

He went on to add: “We changed the shape of the team quite a lot last year but if people do their jobs and we get things right we don’t get stuck in that position.”
