Reuell Walters on Portsmouth & his first ever start!

We catch up with the Hatters defender after his senior debut

Reuell Walters made his Luton Town debut in Monday's opening Championship game of the season against Burnley.

Despite the result, the summer signing from Arsenal was excited about his first run out in front of a packed Kenilworth Road.

“I was really excited from the beginning," said the 19-year-old. "I was told I would be starting the day before, and from there on it’s about getting your head on it and making sure I’m playing my football and showing what I am about.

"I feel like I gave an okay account of myself, but I was really pleased to be out there.”

The England Under-20 international can't wait to get back out on the grass when the Hatters travel to the south coast to take on newly-promoted Portsmouth on Saturday.

“I think we have a bit of a head start with some earlier prep, but it's a little bit of a quick turnaround and we are excited for it," said Reuell. "It’s going to be a game to bounce back in and we just want to build on the positives of the last game and do better in the next one.”

Having experienced the Town fans for the first time, the man known to all as 'Reu' stressed their importance in helping the team get their first points on the board this season.

“The fans are always going to be really important for us this season whether that is away games or home games, giving us that extra boost when we are on and off the pitch," he added.

"I'm really excited to see the fans [at Fratton Park] and hopefully we will give a good account of ourselves.”
