After fighting back on two occasions, the Hatters took the lead before the away side replied in the second half during an entertaining contest at Kenilworth Road.
“The problem was every time they had a set play we looked like we would head it in," the gaffer admitted after the match. "We didn’t do the basics well enough, apart from that we were magnificent. We had 24 shots, 11 on target, three goals. We wanted to be aggressive, we targeted certain areas and certain people.
"The game plan was perfect apart from we just could not head the ball out of our 18-yard box when they had a set-play, because I think they only had four set plays and we headed in two ourselves.
“That’s not good enough. To score three at home, be as dominant as we were, we’ve let them off the hook again. Everything about our play apart from set plays was outstanding but we’re sat here after a 3-3 draw.”
On Elijah Adebayo, who scored his first and second goal of the season this evening, Jones said: “You have to realise he set such high standards last season. He was always going to have to gather momentum, what you have to do is keep believing in your players, keep telling them how good they are and keep working with them.
“He works hard, tonight first half was all about Elijah Adebayo and how he was last year, so if we have him and Carlton doing that, with Harry Cornick and Cameron Jerome that we have as well, we have a real, real chance.”
