The duo netted a brace each and both assisted each other once at The Eyrie as the young Hatters advanced to the Beds Senior Cup final, set to be played at Kenilworth Road later this month.
Burger, playing in the attacking-midfield role, explained that he “felt good” out on the pitch. “I thought the boys played well. We knew coming into the game that if we pressed well and got after them, we could create a lot of chances. I think that reflected in our performance and that we scored five goals.
“You don’t get the opportunity to play against experienced players every week, players who have been playing the game for a long time, players who know the dark arts of the game, so it was a good learning curve to get through that."
Lynch was lethal in-front of goal, as he has been all season playing in the Under-18 side who have won the EFL Youth Alliance South East title and reached the FA Youth Cup Fifth Round.
“Obviously it was tough conditions on a cold night”, Lynch said. “We fought well and had to play the game at some points by going long, not always playing how we would like to play, but it suited us today and got the good result.
“It’s been a brilliant season, personally I feel like I’ve done really well, but as a team we have pushed on. We’ve won the [EFL Youth Alliance South East] league title, now pushing to win the Merit League, we done really well in the FA Youth Cup and now playing in the Development squad, we have to push and bring what we had with the Under-18s over to this team, and help to win this cup in the final.”
Burger has also played a starring role in the Under-18 squad this season, and he was delighted that last night’s starting line-up was full of talent from the same team.
“It’s brilliant. It shows that there’s a lot of quality in the Under-18s group and we’re just looking to improve the Development squad every time we step onto the pitch, that’s the main thing.
“We’ve had Macca [Alan McCormack] all season, he demands a lot from us and Forbesy [Adrian Forbes] does the same. Having them both there is really good for us to push on in games and work harder.”
Lynch scored two goals across the two FA Youth Cup games that were played at Kenilworth Road earlier this season and he is “really looking forward” to another opportunity to play at the stadium.
“We just have to push on and win, not let our standards drop, it’s going to be a tough game, we can’t underestimate our opponents and just stay focused. We’ll be well prepared on and off the pitch for the next few weeks and go to win that game.”
