On a busy day of transfer movement at Luton Town, manager Rob Edwards caught up with the local media after training at The Brache this afternoon to give his views on a range of topics.

On new signing Reuell Walters:

“He’s really keen to progress, he wants to play first team football, and we feel at this club he can get that opportunity. Of course he’s got to earn it, there’s no guarantee with anybody, but he’s a really exciting addition.

“He’ll come into the first team squad. Like all of our younger players, they’re all going to develop and hopefully keep improving, but he’ll have opportunities in pre-season. We’ll see where he’s at, I don’t want to put any pressure on him as he’s a young player, but a really exciting signing."

On Shandon Baptiste and other potential signings:

“We brought Shandon in, which is a really good signing for us. He’s a really exciting player who gives us more strength in that midfield area as well.

“We lost Ross (Barkley), and Sambi (Lokonga) was key for us as well last year, so that’s certainly an area that we’re still looking in and along with maybe one or two others, but there won’t be loads of people coming in.

“But there is, if we needed to, money there that we can spend, which not many clubs can actually say at the moment. So if we feel it’s the right person that’s going to really improve the group, we can do that as well, which is really encouraging.”

On Erik Pieters training with the club:

“Erik’s training with us and we’re going to make a decision as quickly as possible, which is best for everybody. He’s a good guy, with good experience and he’s been in for just over a week. He played the other day and got some minutes. It’s an option for us."

On the return to pre-season training in general:

“It’s been a really positive couple of weeks. The break went quite quickly and it’s been nice. Iad a bit of down time, some family time, but then it’s been busy as well with lots going on.

“There have been one or two changes which are inevitable at the end of a season and going into the new season, but I feel really good, really motivated, really excited and I think the fact the lads have come in in such a positive frame of mind, it feels me with a lot of confidence.”
