Town’s schedule for their fourth consecutive season in the division is soon to be revealed, so why not familiarise yourself with the last three opening day encounters…
Luton Town 3-0 Peterborough United – 7th August 2021
Hatters made a perfect start to the Championship campaign as a capacity crowd returned to Kenilworth Road for the first time in almost 18 months, with goals from Elijah Adebayo, Harry Cornick and Fred Onyedinma sealing a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Peterborough.
10,000 fans were united singing Mick Harford's name, before a minute's applause in tribute to the supporters who have passed away since the start of the pandemic.
Back in front of a full crowd for the first time since his return to the club, Nathan Jones handed debuts to six summer signings including Onyedinma who scored once and set-up the other two goals on the day.
Barnsley 0-1 Luton Town – 12th September 2020
Luton Town extended their unbeaten run against Barnsley to four matches after James Collins scored the only goal of the game to give Nathan Jones’ side three points at Oakwell.
The 2020/21 season took place behind closed doors but there was plenty of noise from the Luton bench as they applauded Collins' powerful effort which flew past Jack Walton.
It was a first victory on the opening day since 2017 when Luton beat Yeovil Town 8-2, a day also remembered for Collins' debut hat-trick!
Luton Town 3-3 Middlesbrough – 2nd August 2019
Town marked their return to the Championship by sharing a six-goal thriller with Middlesbrough at Kenilworth Road.
The foundations of the stadium rocked as the two teams were welcomed onto the pitch and even after Ashley Fletcher had given Boro the lead after seven minutes, the Hatters were not deterred and fought their way back into the contest.
Ten minutes later, Sonny Bradley broke his long-standing duck for Luton with a stunning strike from range before Martin Cranie nodded in from a corner.
Middlesbrough then regained the lead with goals either side of half-time and could have extended their lead but for Britt Assombalonga missing from the penalty spot.
With five minutes from time, James Collins was on hand to fire a rebound past Boro keeper Darren Randolph to claim a point from a pulsating fixture.
