Andrew Shinnie scored from just outside the box, before Elliot Lee netted twice from close range to ensure the Town were relatively comfortable in their win, which Jones was happy with, as his team demonstrated their ability to win the game even when they weren't in complete control.

"It definitely did [please me]," Jones said. "Because it shows that when we're not quite at our best that we have the tools to win a difficult football match. There wasn't too much in the game in terms of dominance, but we should have been 3-0 up by half-time, I reiterate that in terms of the decisions that we didn't get.

"I am convinced that the game should have been dead and buried at half-time. It wasn't, but we got the goals by 68 minutes which effectively won us the game. It's very pleasing, sometimes it's just about doing the basics right and with the quality we have, sometimes that can be enough.

"I am pleased with a lot of people's form and Elliot is getting the goals and his work rate is good. But we've got to keep our feet on the ground and keep doing those things. We've got some tough fixtures coming up and as long as we keep doing the right things, then we're pleased with how we're playing. We can't affect how anyone else plays, but what we can do is affect our own performances, which in turn should affect our results."

Danny Hylton served the final match of his three-game suspension on Saturday, meaning he is eligible for tomorrow evening's game against Bradford City.

An appearance against the Bantams tomorrow would mark 100 appearances for the Hatters for the former Aldershot Town striker, having netted 55 times since he joined in the summer of 2016.

Jones said: "It's good to have as many options as you can. If you've got the options then it's good – Danny comes back into the squad which is vital because he's a big player for us and to have him chomping at the bit like he is, it's good for us and good for the squad.

"Danny has been a wonderful signing. He has been a wonderful signing for this football club. We tend to look through the negatives with Danny, but we are under no illusions, he has been a fantastic signing. When we did sign him, we were building, but he was one of the first signings and I do believe that he had a knock-on affect of us getting other players, because he was a marquee signing at the time.

"We signed a few marquee players over that time and Danny was one of them. He has repaid me no end. You have to put up with certain things with Danny, but I am willing to put up with that, because I know what I get.

"I know what he's like as a character, I know what he's like around the training ground, I know what he's like in games and some of the things he has to put up with on a football pitch. So he's been a wonderful addition to this club and I am very proud of him."
