The former West Ham United and Barnsley forward netted a brilliant strike against the Iron before being taken off with 43 minutes on the clock, but Jones is expecting him to available in the very near future.

He said: "It's not a tear or anything. His hamstring is stiff and tight. But he's put in big shifts lately and that's what you've got to be careful of with a lot of them, that's why we freshen them up. Andrew Shinnie was not himself at Oxford in terms of the energy levels.

That's why we brought Jorge Grant back in because we know we have that and we have to look after them. Elliot wasn't as fluid if you like, wasn't as fluent as he usually is, so that's why we changed him and maybe we have to look at that because they're putting in big shifts.

"That's one thing they are, they're an honest group that want to work hard. I am glad it wasn't one game too far for Elliot because he obviously scored, but we've got to make sure we're doing our job as well."

The result against Stuart McCall's side means the Town have now gone six League One games unbeaten at Kenilworth Road so far this season, winning four of those outings.

Whilst he is obviously pleased to see the run continue, his side are focused solely on carrying on their form, as well as hoping to build on their first away win of the campaign last Tuesday at Oxford.

"We're on a good run off the back of a good week," the gaffer continued. "But there's not time to rest or to enjoy it or do anything other than prepare for another game. They come thick and fast, but it's not the Championship or Premier League with the international break and we're still right at it. We are in a good place, but we have got to make sure that continues.

"We've got to make sure we turn a corner in the away form as well. we're good at home, we know we're a decent side at home, we have been for a while. Now we have got to make sure we turn the draws and performances away from home in to points. If you do that then you start climbing, as we have this week."

The game against Scunthorpe was another enthralling encounter the Town have been involved in so far this season, with Jones confident his side can compete at a high level in the third tier.

"The games are of a high standard. It's not just the opposition or anything, it's how we play. We expect big shifts, they all graft, they press and they work hard. We play a different system – it's not just a defend and sit and deny space – we're a brave side and we have got to make sure we are doing the right things all the time and we believe in our environment."
