The Hatters are in fifth with 28 points after 16 games and are second in the form table (the last eight games) only off top spot on goal difference.
Jones said: "We're in decent form, we have been for a while actually. I think the Barnsley defeat was disappointing, so was Peterborough, but apart from those we've probably deserved to get something out of every game we have played.
"For me, I am enjoying the form we're in, but we have got to continue that. We have had a very good month, it culminated in a fantastic week to finish the month off. But now we want to make sure we continue that form.
"I don't think they've surpassed my expectations – we didn't expect anything. We were always building for this level and we felt that we could have always been competitive at this level and we are proving to be very competitive at this level.
"We knew we'd do that, so I expected to be very competitive at this level in terms of league position, in terms of points gained. You can't put an exact figure on where you expect to be, I don't think that's possible.
"But nothing has surprised me, nothing has shocked me in terms of where we are. I do honestly believe we should have more points – in the games that we've won I've felt we have deserved to win, we have very rarely nicked games.
"The games that we have lost, I feel we should have got points from two of the four games, I really do. Peterborough we didn't deserve anything, our first half performance wasn't good enough and Barnsley on the whole were better than us on the day. But I feel we should have got points from every game.
"I feel we are in a position we deserve to be at, that doesn't surprise me, but we aren't saying we expected to be here."
Town's development squad fixture against Southend United on Tuesday afternoon ended in a 3-3 draw, with a number of first team players getting important minutes under their belt.

"A few of them got game time," Jones continued.
"Kazenga is now further up to speed, it kept Alan McCormack ticking over. Lloyd Jones got the minutes he needed, Marek Stech as well. So it's been a positive week in terms of that.
"Berry has been back out on the grass. Jorge Grant was today involved a little bit. So we are in a stronger position than where we were a week ago."
