With 69 points after 35 games, the Hatters sit a point clear at the top of the fourth tier, as they look forward to welcoming second placed Accrington Stanley to Kenilworth Road this Saturday.

Whilst the Hatters have been in a fairly decent vein of form having only suffered two league defeats since the turn of the year, John Coleman's side are the form team in the league, having picked up 25 points from their last ten games.

Jones said: "We've been consistent all year, some people have really good runs. We've had good runs, we've gone at least two months of this season unbeaten. But we've had a real good consistent run.

"We're near enough right on cue for our points tally and that's all we can do. Some have had wonderful runs, Accrington at the minute are in form.

"We can't do anything about them, all we can do is try and win our own games. We are unbeaten in quite a few and are a difficult side to play against, so that's all we can affect."

The Hatters have picked up three red cards since the start of 2018 and the gaffer believes that overall the suspensions have impacted on the Town's results.

"It probably has [impacted us] to be honest with you," he continued. "We have had a lot of red cards. We've won a decent percentage of games when we have gone down to ten men, but it doesn't do us any good, because you never know the knock-on effect, the next game and so on. It's not just the game they get sent off.

"I don't want to harp on too much about things like – Alan Sheehan's one was avoidable. I felt the one on the weekend was very harsh, I felt that could have been handled in so many different ways. It was a heated game, it's kind of a derby, from some of the things that have come back, I couldn't understand it.

"Maybe the referee didn't realise he had booked him so close before. But that [James Collins' handball] was a silly booking and we want to eradicate that because if we keep 11 players on the pitch then we tend to do quite well."

The game against Cambridge saw Lawson D'Ath limp off after 20 minutes after a coming together with U's striker Uche Ikpeazu, with Jones expecting his midfielder to be out for the foreseeable future.

The Welshman explained: "He's just opened up his medial so he'll be a few weeks. It's a shame as he was in real good form in terms of training, we gave him an opportunity and it didn't last very long.

"But he was fortunate that when Uche Ikpeazu fell on him that it wasn't anything more serious because he's a big lad and if he falls on your leg and it's in the wrong place, that can do some damage. So it's fortunate that he's only just opened up his medial."
