PFA Player of the Year 2016 Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the game late on as he fired home from close range.

Jones praised his side, who came up against a number of the players who were a big part of the Foxes' Premier League winning side.

He said: "It was a different kind of work out to the ones we've had. We came up against some real Premier League quality, with a lot of out of possession stuff that we did well. We worked hard, we defended.

"We grafted, it was a little bit disappointing at times with our quality, but maybe I am asking too much because a year ago these were winning the Premier League! And they've strengthened and they're a better team now.

"It was a great workout for us and it's a shame that they scored – look they had chances – I am not saying we deserved to draw the game or win the game or anything. It was a great test for us and a nice game."

The Hatters manager opted for a younger Town side, but in his eyes, the Welshmen felt it was the right call as it provided a great experience for those players.

"With the personnel we wanted to use tonight we felt it was right to do that," Jones continued. "We gave them a bit of respect as well, not so much for changing, but for picking a side to do that. Second half we changed that and went back to a little bit more like us.

"But it was a great run out. We had some really young players out there, young Jack Senior, Akin Famewo, Frankie Musonda, Tyreeq Bakinson, they wouldn't have come up against the quality of that opposition so it was a great test for them.

"It was a real youthful side we put out tonight, apart from Johnny Mullins it was a youthful side. I am proud of them because they worked hard, they grafted, at times I was disappointed with certain aspects of it, apart from that it was a good night."
