The gaffer believes that his side are well prepared for life in Sky Bet League One, but he wants to recruit a few players during the close season that will add real strength to his side.

He said: "We actually think we've probably done about three quarters of the job in terms of the players we have here. We have a squad, with the ones we bought in last year who weren't for one league, they weren't just to get us up League Two, they were to impact again in League One.

"We probably need two or three real, real gooduns, real strong ones, that significantly improve our 11, or add significant competition to the ones who are there. Then we move forward again because we've got good size in our squad, we've got good age, good athleticism, plenty of talent, got goals in the side.

"We're quite secure in pretty much every area, so it's just about adding that little bit more quality."

Such is his confidence in the position of the club on and off the field, he has no doubt he would want to join the Town if he were still a player.

"I would want to join this football club," he continued.

"If I was a player now and I was looking to enhance my future, to play in a wonderful side and come to a wonderful club to train every day, and enhance my career by constantly looking to move forward with people who want to develop me and want to do well – I'd struggle to find a better club, I really would.

"I'm biased I know, because I'm the manager of this football club. But I'd want to be here, I would 100 per cent want to be here. And I'd want to tell my mates, because this is such a good place to be and we're in a good place.

"We are going to enjoy this because it's a culmination of over two years' work, but we always know that we've got to keep moving forward and that's the thing we've got to make sure we do."

Jones was present at the Luton Town Supporters' Trust Presentation Evening on Sunday night, as a host of Hatters received awards.

The Welshman was pleased to see a number of players honoured, as it demonstrated the quality across the team.

He said: "There wasn't one dominating it this year and I think that's right. Potts was honoured for Players' player which showed what great respect he is held in the squad, Sheehan won two Player of the Year awards, including the overall one.

"The young player one, which we've got three real top ones in terms of JJ, Elliot Lee and Jack Stacey were up for it, so we had to choose between those three. It was a real, real competition.

"I am just so delighted that Harry Cornick didn't win more than one, because that was probably the worst speech I have ever heard. Seriously!"
