The Hatters could have gone up on Tuesday night had Exeter lost to Chesterfield, but the Grecians won 2-1 at St James Park.
Jones isn't worried about how promotion is achieved though, he just wants to see the Town secure their place in League One at the earliest opportunity.
He said: "We know we need one win to secure promotion, and the earlier we can get it, the better. We've got a tough game on the weekend, but we want to get it done.
"We would like to do it as soon as possible, we would have liked to it have happened the other night, but it wasn't quite possible. We're going up there in good form, we know it'll be a tough game, they always are against Carlisle, always a tight game. but we want to win the game and we will try to do that.
"It's a tight league in so many ways. Exeter are in good form, Wycombe also. They're both good sides, we're all pushing each other. Thankfully we are in good form ourselves and it's in our hands. So let's make sure we get it done.
"Let's do one thing first, then we can see where we are. Right now, we would settle for guaranteed promotion, but if we do that, and the earlier we do that, you set your sights on winning as many games as you possibly can and then putting pressure on Accrington."
The Hatters had five players named in the PFA League Two Team of the Season earlier in the week, with Marek Stech, Alan Sheehan, Dan Potts, Luke Berry and Danny Hylton all included.
It's the second team that has seen the Hatters have had five players picked, after the EFL League Two Team of the Season.
Jones again was pleased to see his players get recognition, but felt there could have been more inclusions for the Town squad.
He said: "It's good to see your players recognised and I'm slightly biased, but I think they're deserved. I think they have been a credit to themselves in terms of how they've gone about their work and there's three from Accrington as well, and justifiably so.
"I think it's a real fair side, the ones who have got in. We like to think that we probably could have had one or two more. People like James Collins hasn't got in even one, but you think Olly Lee has done fantastically well. Jack Stacey's got in one not the other, Marek Stech's got in one not the other, and these have been big, big players.
"So we're delighted to have five, I think it's only Manchester City who have had the number we've had, so we're pleased with that."
