NATHAN JONES ON OUR FANTASTIC FORM AND SCOTT CUTHBERT'S CENTURY

Town boss Nathan Jones has said that the fantastic run of form his side are currently on changes little in their approach for Saturday’s game at Crawley Town.

With seven wins from their last eight, the victory over Exeter City on Tuesday night lifted the Hatters to the top of Sky Bet League Two for the first time since the opening day of the season.

The Red Devils were defeated by Chesterfield on Tuesday, with Harry Kewell’s side now 19th in the division.

He said: “I am not saying it doesn’t change anything, but it gives you a better platform because players are a bit more receptive.

“Right now we have got a group that believes in what we do regardless of results anyway and wants to work hard and wants to better themselves, even more now because we are in a rich vein of form. They want to continue that and as I said they are a hungry group, but the run doesn’t change anything we do, we will play in exactly the same way.

“We will not get carried away in anyway shape or form. It’s only 14 games in, we are in a real good place, the best possible place and to be honest we want to stay there and we want to continue. We can get better.

“We didn’t actually play particularly well in the first half against Exeter, so there is stuff we need to improve on if we want to develop and move this club forward. The second half was a wonderful, wonderful performance, so was Saturday, but there is still room for improvement and I am not just being coy, I am not just being clever by saying that.

“We have to get better because we want to take this club forward and those who can’t get better won’t be here. Those that do get better, we move forward with. We have that ethos here.”

Scott Cuthbert could make his 100th appearance for the Hatters at the Checkatrade.com Stadium this Saturday, with Jones delighted with the Scotsman’s contribution to his side.

“I have been really pleased, we have had real continuity in our team so far and he has proved that,” Jones continued. “He has been a great captain for me since I have been here. There were rumours about him going in the summer and he came up to me and we cleared the air, but I have never stated anything about Scott Cuthbert wanting to leave. Scott has been a fantastic captain.

“I have brought in others with captain material in terms of Johnny Mullins, Alan McCormack, Alan Sheehan and James Collins potentially. So there’s a lot of people there, but I have kept faith with Scott because he has been a wonderful captain for me on and off the pitch. So I have been delighted with him.

“I must be delighted with him because he is playing in the team, if anyone is in then team then I must be delighted with them because the competition is ferocious at the moment.”
