NATHAN JONES LOOKING TO BRING IN MIDFIELDER THIS WINDOW

Town boss Nathan Jones has said he wants to try and bring in a holding midfielder this month, after the transfer window opened on Tuesday.

Glen Rea's knee injury means the Hatters find themselves a midfielder light.

The rumour-mill is already in full swing, but Jones has said the club hasn't got a deal in place for any player at this moment in time.

"There's a lot that could happen, but there's nothing concrete yet," he explained.

"We're looking at strengthening in certain areas and that's ongoing. It would be wrong of me to speak about anyone yet, so let's see how it goes.

"We want to bring in another midfield player and if that's a defensive one or it's one that's a bit versatile and can do both, then that's what we're looking at. But we are actively looking to bring in a midfield player of that type, it depends what deal we can get done."

Asked about how much time he spends talking to chief executive Gary Sweet and the stresses that the window creates, Jones said he was pleased the club find themselves in a good position to turn down bids for players.

He said: "I'd love the window to shut when we like it to, but that's not the case! It's a difficult month, it really is. There's a lot of speculation, but it does allow you to improve your own collective, but also your players are targets for bigger clubs that want to take what you have. But we're a strong club and we've got a strong board, so it'll take something special.

"We speak hourly now [rather than daily]! But I speak to Gary regularly, we have got a good relationship. Now it's heightened with certain things going on, we make decisions together – the decision process is constantly on-going and we want to make sure we make the right one.

"It's a massive dialogue because we highlight ones we want, we don't sign anyone we haven't already highlighted. The odd one does come along where you think ' that would improve us significantly', but you have to weigh certain things up.

"There's myself, Gary, Mick obviously, but also the staff have their opinions as well because Joaquin and Steve watch a lot of games. We have opinions on players, we clip out certain things, give them information and we all chip in and then ultimately it is our decision. It's a good process really."
