Town boss Nathan Jones insists he is only focused on this weekend's Sky Bet League Two match against Chesterfield as the Hatters eye up their first real opportunity of the season to put a winning run together.

Victories over Port Vale and Wycombe Wanderers have put the Hatters in the position of winning three on the bounce – a feat they didn't achieve last season until the final trio of games.

"Other sides put runs together, we don't often put big runs of wins together, we don't get beaten very often either," Jones explained. "So it's a big opportunity and we hope we take it.

"It's all cliché but you can't look ahead to other games, you take every game as it comes. We have done absolutely no work on Morecambe whatsoever, we have done all our work for Chesterfield this week, then we will regroup Sunday/Monday and we will work towards Morecambe and then Thursday/Friday we will work towards Newport.

"They come thick and fast, not massive amounts will change in our preparation. It's just about tinkering."

Jones' side have had a tough start in the league, taking on pre-season title favourites Mansfield Town, as well as physical sides Lincoln City and Wycombe, taking five points from those away fixtures.

The gaffer conceded he would have liked to have a couple more points to his team's name at this stage, but doesn't think they are in a bad position.

He said: "I think there's a lot of good signs for the club. Yes, we would like to be higher, but we have had some tough games.

"We have probably had the toughest away start of anyone. Barnet as I said right at the start are going to be one of the surprise packages this year, and then to go to Mansfield, Lincoln and Wycombe and to be unbeaten in those three is a big thing.

"Yes, we would have liked to have won but we have got to pay those sides respect. Mansfield were favourites to win the league, but we took a good point off them. Lincoln have just come up and play a certain way and were really difficult and have only lost once at home in a year. So that was a good point and then to win in the manner that we did against Wycombe was very pleasing as well.

"We are in a good place and yet we are still to hit real fluent form, but at home I think we have been very good. We've had only the one defeat and that was due to being down to ten men. So it's a decent place to be in but we have got to capitalise on that now. We have got games coming up, two at home this month that we want to capitalise on."
