The Town gaffer believes his team is more than equipped for life in League One, and wants them to finish off the season strongly on Saturday at Meadow Lane.
Jones said: “It’s a wonderful occasion, taking a big amount of fans with us, and as I said, it’s time to enjoy it. But we want to do well, because we want to, one; finish the season off right, and two; be respectful to everyone else in and around the play-offs. But it’s for our own personal pride as well.
“I’m glad we haven’t got to go there having to win so we won’t disrespect that luxury in any way, but we’ll go there and be right at it. As I said they’re in good form, we’re the team with the best form in the league at the minute, so we’ll finish strongly and we want to continue that.
"Never mind how well we've played football-wise, or the goals that we've scored, or the young players that we've introduced. What I said to the fans is that we were going to give them a team that they can be proud of, and we've done that I think."
Jones believes that his side’s performance in League Two this season has put the Town in a great position to strengthen the team over the summer. He added: “As far as I’m concerned and from the conversations I’ve had, it’ll take massive bids to get players from us.
“We know who we’d like to bring in, we’ve earmarked targets, but I don’t want to be disrespectful because some teams have still got things to play for. Some who have got nothing to play for you know, the players have still got games left. We’ll embark on that when everyone’s season is done, or the ones that we’re interested in are done.
“Obviously we have to speak to our players first because we have a number of ones that are out of contract… We’ve purposely left that until the end of the season because only last week were we promoted, so only then can we really start to plan.”
The gaffer also believes that with the potential of a new stadium on the horizon, the new development will be crucial to the club’s future and its ability to both attract new players and keep hold of the current squad.
“When we get our stadium that will make us slightly more bulletproof, if you like,” said the Welshman. “But it will take massive bids to get the players that we want to keep at this football club. We have fantastic players, and the good thing about our players here is that I think that the majority of them realise that this is a good place to be, and that they will further their career here.
“For the football club we need it, to further the football club and to keep hold of our best players, and to attract even better ones and to be playing fantastic teams week in week out. We need the stadium, point blank.”
Jones also spoke about his appreciation for the amazing support that his team receive each and every week from Luton Town’s incredible fan-base: “I’m very appreciative of what we have with the fans.
“People have made known to me that they’re happy with the work that we’ve done throughout the season and now it’s a thank you for achieving the goal that we set out to do. So I’ve got a good relationship with the fans, we have as a staff as well, they see the work we’re doing.
“We’ve fallen short on very few occasions, over the last two seasons we have lost less games in both years than any other side in the league. Last year I think it was nine, this year it’s eight. Over a season that’s a fantastic record.”
Jones spoke about the Youth team’s EFL Youth Alliance Cup final victory on Wednesday night, stating that the difference from the last time they played at Kenilworth Road was incredible.
He added that he knows about the work they have been doing with Inigo Idiakez, but it’s when they take the main stage that he really sees the character and the development of the club’s young players.
He spoke further about the importance of bringing players through the youth system in to the first team at Luton Town: “It’s always been that way. I don’t think there’s a manager in the English Football League that’s given more debuts than me at the minute, in my two and a half years at the club I think we’ve given 16 debuts. I’m not sure you can give any more than that. But we want to do that."
