Town interim manager Mick Harford has said the the Town first team players are a great group to work with, ahead of this Saturday's Sky Bet League One game against Peterborough United.

A win for the Hatters and a defeat for table topping Portsmouth would put Harford's side to within one point of top spot in the third tier, but face a tough test against Steve Evans' side.

Mick said: "I know the players are up for the fight to get promotion, to get this football club out of this league. As a whole, they're a magnificent group, the lads who are on the periphery of it are very supportive of it, the lads who are playing.

"I have learned there is a big, big togetherness, there is a good spirit. We all know about their ability and what they're like, when they put the orange shirt on, you know what you're getting. But there is a good all round spirit about the boys."

George Thorne joined the Hatters at the beginning of the month and Harford has said he expects the former West Bromwich Albion midfielder to be involved in our upcoming games.

"George is a very technical, holding midfield player," Mick explained. "I had a chat with him this morning and he's probably wondering when he's going to get his opportunity. We've got three games in the next ten days, so he will probably play a part in some of those games.

"As a manager, you cant promise people games, but I am sure he will play a part in the coming week and he will be a big asset for us for his ability on the ball and his ability in possession."

Being in the dugout has also helped him in his normal job as chief recruitment officer, according to Harford.

"You see the game from a different angle, it hasn't affected me at all, it's just the intensity, you realise the physicality and in terms of recruitment it actually helps me in a way because of the intensity of the game, I know what we need for this level." He added.

The interim boss was also asked about his thoughts on Power Court being given the thumbs up by Luton Borough Council, with the meeting for the planning and control committee for Newlands Park taking place at the end of this month.

"It's monumental. It's absolutely fantastic news for everyone connected with the football club, the town and the community. It's the best news the club has had in years."

"A new stadium around the corner, I said to the lads this morning 'it's the best news we've had for ages and hope some you can play in it!' They were all asking for new contracts!"
