New signing Mark McGuinness is in line to make his home debut as the defender returns to the Hatters squad for the visit for QPR on Friday night.

The former Cardiff centre half, who made his debut at Preston last weekend, was cup-tied for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Loftus Road.

Rob Edwards confirmed returning trio Marvelous Nakamba, Mads Andersen and Reece Burke all came through the tie in west London will no ill effects.

However, the boss confirmed that despite a fine 45-mintue cameo, the Hatters will nurse Nakamba through in his return to full fitness.

“It was great to get 45 minutes into Marv,” said Edwards at his press conference on Thursday. “He’s not fully fit yet but it’s important not to do too much too soon and manage his body.

“Together with the medical team we’ll sit down and plot a training schedule to maximise him getting fitter – but we’ve got to ger that right.

“It was great to have him and Mads and Burkey back – I’m pleased with those two. I thought they also played well so that’s a huge bonus.”

A slight groin strain kept Teden Mengi out of Tuesday’s tie at QPR and the defender is pushing for a return, while Elijah Adebayo, who briefly limped off in midweek, is available to face the R’s.

Tom Krauß isn’t far away from making his first involvement in Town colours according to Edwards and could be back after the international break while Jacob Brown is making progress in his rehabilitation from a knee injury.
