Andre Ayew scored the game’s only goal in the 82nd minute despite the Hatters defending valiantly throughout the 90 minutes and having a number of their own chances.
Pearson – who was voted man of the match – believes that the players did everything they could, saying: “We’ve said as a team that as long as we all give everything we can’t ask for anymore. I think that today you could see that we have given everything and it could have gone either way I thought, we were just on the receiving end. We need to get these wins and draws, we know the situation.”
The defeat ended a run of two consecutive home victories as Town remain in 21st place, two points above the relegation zone. Now halfway through the Championship campaign, Pearson insists: “We can’t look back now, we’ve just got to look forward. We’ve got another game in a couple of days, so we need to rest and recover, review a little and get ready to give it all again on Boxing Day.”
For the defender, his performance was another day at the office as he constantly put his body on the line, adding going out onto the pitch is like ‘going out to battle’.
“We go out there to fight, it’s basically going out to battle and we’re doing our best to get the win and get the clean-sheet. Even a nil-nil draw, as long as us defenders are doing everything that we can to stop the ball going in the goal.
“This is football and football put’s all sorts of things in-front of you and today we were on the receiving end again and it is getting us down a bit. We’ve just got to keep going, keep sticking together and keep trying to give everything we have got which we have done.”
The 26-year-old remains positive despite recent results, concluding: “If you look at our form, if we could just change half of our losses to draws it makes a big difference in this league. That’s the big problem, we’ve only had two draws and in this league a draw is like a win and we need to get these draws.
“Today and Preston last week, even if we drew one of them it’s another point, we need to change these losses into draws but at the minute it’s just not happening.”
