Battling with fellow summer arrival Ethan Horvath and Harry Isted, the 27-year-old said he is ready to fight for his place after helping preserve a clean sheet against Peterborough in the penultimate pre-season test.

“We want to build that momentum going into the season and we’ve won every game so far. A couple of goals and a clean sheet, happy days!

“I’m always happy with a clean sheet no matter what. It’s always nice to make a few saves. At the end of the day, it’s about getting minutes under the belt especially at a new team and getting more comfortable with the boys in front which is important for me in pre-season.”

Recollecting his thoughts after arriving at the club on a permanent basis this summer, Macey said: “It was made clear before I came to the club and when I’ve come to the club now, it is going to be a battle.

“I knew at Championship level, at a club at this size of Luton you’re not going to just have a number one and a number two, it’s going to be a battle. I think I’ve always placed my best when I’ve had proper competition. I’m enjoying it, enjoying the battle, Ethan has been doing well so we will see.

“He’s got his own ambitions for the World Cup, I’ve got my own ambitions, Harry has his ambitions. Everyone is fighting to play but they have their other reasons and competition is the best thing for the club in the long run.”
