On Wycombe: “The ironic thing is we were in that position last year so we know the motivation, we know what we did to teams last year and we have to get that back. I don’t think Wycombe will be any more motivated than the fact that, one they need the points and two there is a good healthy rivalry between the two clubs. We know it is going to be a tough game, as it always is when we play Wycombe.

“You know you are going to be tested physically when you come up against Wycombe, but we have a good record there and we have strengths of our own. If we turn up and we’re at it like we normally are then it will be a tough game for Wycombe as well. We’re a good side and we have a very good record against Wycombe.”

Who?

Wycombe Wanderers were promoted to the Championship for the first time in their history last season, beating Oxford United 2-1 in the Play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

The Chairboys and Luton were both promoted from League Two together in 2018 having been on similar journeys through the divisions in recent years.

The manager – Gareth Ainsworth

Gareth Ainsworth has been in charge of Wycombe since September 2012, leading the club to the Championship this season after a fantastic 3rd place finish on points per game, after the season was ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He is the second longest serving manager in the EFL and is also well known for his rock lifestyle off the pitch, as lead singer for the Cold Blooded Hearts.

Main threat – Fred Onyedinma

Fred Onyedinma joined the Chairboys on a permanent deal from Millwall in July 2019 following a number of prior loan spells with the club.

Though his game-time was limited due to injury, he still made a vital contribution in-front of goal last season, scoring four times in the league and twice in the play-offs.

He is their joint-top scorer during this campaign with four goals but in recent matches he has been deployed in a left-back role.

When and where?

Kick-off is 3pm at Adams Park on Saturday 10th April.

Man in the middle?

The referee for Saturday’s fixture is Oliver Langford – who last took charge of the Hatters in the 1-1 draw against Huddersfield in November 2020.

Played before?

Luton were 2-0 victors earlier this season courtesy of goals from Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu and Elliot Lee.
